Sounds like you are in California. You don’t need a permit to purchase a firearm.

hmm.. i think so because i think they would wonder why you are buying a rifle/shotgun ouldn’t they and probley would ask for your license

tou need a license to hunt you can buy a rifle for target or shot gun for skeet shooting no license required

Federal law requires that you be 18 years of age or older to purchase Rifles and Shotguns..21 years of age for Handguns.
Most states only require a state issued photo ID (Drivers License or Age of Majority I.D.) to prove residency and your age. The store will run a phone NICS check before the sale, then you are good to go…
*NOTE..Some states require you to obtain a FOID card (Firearms Identification ID) to buy firearms of any type…….

It depends what your state’s laws are. In MA, you need a firearm license, and there are mandatory background checks and waiting periods.
