Places To Work In California That Give Discounted Ski Lift Tickets?
Hey, so I don’t have a job and I want to go snowboarding a lot this winter. I know there are some sporting goods places that offer discounted lift tickets for their employees. Sport chalet is one I know of. What other places offer a program like this?

well there is helm of sun valley, REI, pretty much every sporting good store that sells boards and skiis. but the best way would be to work at a resort, this year more then any other year because the H2B visa bill hasn’t passed in congress and what not, no international workers are allowed back into the united states, which means that every ski resort is screwed when it comes to lift operators, instructors, food workers, etc. i have been working at a ski resort for the last 4 seasons and that mountain has no returning international workers. so what does that mean for us U.S citizens? well it means that we will be making more money and have more benefits at the resort. the best way would be to get a job at a mountain, whether its part time or full time. if you want to work full time the ski resorts do have employee housing that is generally pretty cheap considering the house pricing in the surrounding areas.

Mammoth. I’m working there this season and you get a free SEASON PASS for your work. The employee housing is pretty cheap too, it’s anywhere from $11-23 a night, and with the $23 a night option you get your own room! You also get 50% discounts off the food that they sell on the mountain and I think it’s a 20% discount in the pro shops for anything like jackets, gloves, goggs, etc… I’m gonna be doing lifties which is a pretty boring job but everyday you get a 30 minute ride break (but sometimes you can squeeze in an hour long break) and you get at least two days off a week where you can ride with your free season pass till you drop. The sick thing about the season pass is that it doesn’t expire when you stop working, it’s good fo the whoooooole season, so if you were to leave Mammoth in february, you can still go up anytime till the mountain closes and ride for free.

Almost all mountain resorts offer positions that allow you free riding. Google: California Ski Resorts
Now run with that list and click on each Mountain’s site, and click on their “Careers” or “Jobs” sections. At this point, most of them will probably have banners on their homepages saying “Now Hiring!”. But you better apply soon, because most mountains do their initial hiring in Sept/Oct.
