I met a guy at sports chalet that wants me to come down to a gym and he said his freind/trainer will teach me how to box and jiu jitsu? This guys not a fighter more like a promoter or something

He may be asking you to promote the sport. I don’t see a problem with it, unless you are currently with another gym. Maybe he’s see’s something special in you and would like to help you harvest that potential. Of course the money doesn’t hurt either.

It’s just the grapevine. I found out about my local MMA class from a Marquee. The only other way would be for me to run into one of the people that work at the gym attached to it.
I think it’s ok as long as that person isn’t trying to give you fighting advice when they have no experience. What’s the harm in them telling you “Hey. If you’re looking for a martial arts place, how about you try (Insert place/name here)?”

At a gym I was at used to encourage bringing in people and if you brought 3 people that ended up signing up you got a free month or something like that,,,

Maybe he was just trying to be nice. Is that so bad? Or he could just be trying to help his friend out.
