Work Experience In A Ski Resort?
i go to a public school (lower sixth-form) in yorkshire and we’re being encouraged to do some work experience.
After college i would really like to do a gap year in which i’d want to do some chalet hosting in the alps.
i’ve been in contact with one local company (le ski) and they say they can’t do it because of insurance.
anyone have any suggestions of how i would be able to do any work experience for a week with any ski resort companies?
thanks.

I have no idea what lower-sixth-form is, but I know what a Gap year is. If you want to give-up a few months during that time, you should be able to pick up work at any US resort for the winter. As long as you are 18 and can get the work visa you shouldn’t have any problems. Lots of places in the US have people in human resources who will help you get a job. International workers are usually provided with room and board. You may not get to work in a ski chalet, but running a ski lift or teaching isn’t bad work, plus you get free skiing!
Killington, Stratton, Mt. Snow, Okemo, and Stowe (all in Vermont) and some of the New York resorts too all hire internationally. There are plenty of Aussies, Kiwis, and Limeys as well as Eastern Europeans and South Americans working at all the major US resorts.
I know it’s not quite what you were looking for, but it’s something.
