I am planning a drive from Zermatt to Mont-Blanc will I need snow chains at this time of Year Mid April?

Not usually, no, but I’ve seen snow fall in May quite low and even in July (quite high, true) in the Alps so in a high mountain area you should always have your snow chains in your car.

At that time of year highly unlikely as the prefectorial order has been lifted and the roads are clear. However, as someone who knows the area I always err on the side of caution and have snow-chains available in case of problems.
