Unlike The Other Mountains (cols) In France, Why Isn’t Mont Vonteux Known/called A “col”?

All the other mountains are called “Col …..” , so why isn’t Mont Vonteux?

Actually, a “col” is a mountain pass, not the mountain itself:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountain_pa…
Here’s the description of one of the Stage 17 cols:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Col_des_Sai…
On the Mont Ventoux, they actually hit the top of the peak, not a pass below the summit.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mont_Ventou…
However, it does seem that people use them interchangeably. I am confused by it as well.

For the same reason that other mountains are not called cols, Mont Ventoux is a mountain top, not a mountain pass.
